Yeah… I would probably run away as well. :)
I wrote the article mainly for humor value, after a day on the job where I was contrasting what I’d been asked at my interview, versus what I actually spent my time doing. I definitely spend at least as much time wrestling with Jira and trying to juggle competing priorities as I do writing interesting code.
Of course, it could be that I’m just working at the wrong companies…
In all seriousness, I agree with your approach to interviewing, particularly for more senior positions. Focusing on the candidate’s experience, past work, and understanding therein — rather than on rote coding puzzles — is a far better gauge of a candidate.
